Wine & delicatessen

Anfitrión de México

An online store for Anfitrión de México, a wine shop and delicatessen selling fine wines and spirits across Mexico: from Château Mouton Rothschild and Clos Apalta to low-intervention Mexican wines, mezcal, raicilla and sotol, with the sommelier recommendation up front and free shipping on orders over $2,000 MXN.

The challenge

Curation sold as advice

Against supermarket prices and the endless catalog of online wine chains, a fine wine shop wins on selection and judgment. Anfitrión de México has both: international labels not found just anywhere, Bordeaux, Tuscany, Provence, Chile, a Mouton Rothschild, and a selection of low-intervention Mexican wines, plus a spirits catalog with Jalisco raicilla, sotol, mezcal and tequila. The challenge was an online store where the sommelier guided the purchase as if standing across the counter, every label had its page with price and availability, and shipping across Mexico, free over $2,000 MXN, was an argument rather than fine print.

  • ✓Wine buyers across Mexico looking for specific labels or for advice
  • ✓High-value international labels and low-intervention Mexican wines
  • ✓Artisanal Mexican spirits: raicilla, sotol, mezcal and tequila
  • ✓The sommelier recommendation as the differentiator against a catalog with no judgment
  • ✓Competition from large online wine chains with price and volume
The solution

What we built

Wine e-commerce with the sommelier up front: a page per label, picks of the month, categories by origin and checkout with national shipping.

  • ✓Online store with a page per label: name, winery, region, format (750 ml, 1500 ml) and price
  • ✓"Sommelier recommendation" section as the front of the catalog
  • ✓"Recommended spirits of the month" block with mezcal, raicilla, sotol and tequila
  • ✓Categories by origin and type: wines of France, champagne selection, wines of Italy, Mexican wines
  • ✓Benefits bar: free shipping on orders over $2,000 MXN and discounts for registering
  • ✓Cart, wish list, "ask about this product" and checkout with shipping across Mexico
  • ✓"Our partners" section with wineries and importers
  • ✓Pages indexable by label name and a responsive site to buy from a phone
Our approach

Wines with a sommelier, sold online

Against supermarket prices, a fine wine shop wins on selection and advice.

01

Business model

Anfitrión de México is a wine shop and delicatessen selling fine wines and spirits online across Mexico: labels from Bordeaux, Tuscany, Provence and Chile, including a Château Mouton Rothschild, low-intervention Mexican wines and artisanal spirits such as raicilla, sotol, mezcal and tequila, with free shipping on orders over $2,000 MXN. The business is mid-to-high-ticket e-commerce with repeat purchases from customers who trust the selection.

02

Strengths we leveraged

Its strength is curation: the "Sommelier recommendation" and "Recommended spirits of the month" turn a catalog into advice. We built the online store with those sections up front, a page per label with winery, region, format and price, categories by origin, a benefits bar, a wish list, "ask about this product" and a simple checkout with national shipping.

03

Competition & positioning

It competes with large online wine chains that win on price and volume. We positioned every label by its full name and the store for "wine sales in Mexico" and "fine wines online", to capture both the person looking for a specific bottle and the one who wants someone to recommend what to bring to dinner.
